Ari Vatanen - Beyond the Limits: A film about a rallying hero in the build up to the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally

A National Geographic film first broadcast in 2000 telling the story of Ari Vatanen. Also included is a tribute video from the Escort years to his horrific crash in Argentina, and his comeback to conquer the extremeties of the Paris Dakar and Pikes Peak .

In Beyond the Limits Ari describes his thoughts and feelings about rally driving and life in general in his usual philosophical manner and he also explains his driving technique. He talks about growing up in the rural Finnish town of Tuupovaara, the death of his father at an early age and what inspired him, or didn't, to become a rally driver.

Ari will be reunited with Dave Richards this weekend in a Rothmans Mk2 Escort, similar to the one he drove to win the 1981 World Rally Championship, on the McRae Stages to celebrate the life of his good friend Colin Steele McRae.
