Carlos Sainz may become a leading figure of VW Motorsport’s WRC programme with Dani Sordo linked to drive the Scirocco WRC

According to Spanish website marca.com states that Carlos Sainz could be the leading figure (team principal) of the VW Motorsport WRC opperation if Volkswagen decide to commit to the 2011 World Rally Championship as is widely believed. Current Citroen factory driver Dani Sordo has been linked to a drive with the team.
The base model would be the Scirocco although the FIA have apparently turned down a request from VW to change the regulations and allow the Scirocco to be 1810mm wide as the FIA's limit is 1800mm at present. It isn't clear yet how VW Motorsport have responded to the FIA's stance.
Senior VW Motorsport figures including team director Kris Nissen have attended various recent WRC rounds and have been in dialogue with the FIA about a possible WRC entry in 2011.
