Former double World rally champion Marcus Gronholm may consider a return to the WRC after a couple of leading teams have had discussions with him about a deal.

According to Autosport UK Gronholm is believed to have had discussions with Subaru and Citroen about a possible return, but both teams have denied it. Gronholm would only comment that he might return but at the minute he dosen't know. A Subaru source added: "Anything is possible if people want it bad enough."

It is believed that both Petter and Chris will be retained next year by Subaru despite some speculation a while back that Petter would leave at the end of the season. Malcolm Wilson of Ford has stated that he will retain Mikko and Jari next year in the works team and there would not be room for Gronholm there.

A concern for Gronholm though is the tactics being employed by teams this year re: the running order on certain events.

Gronholm stated to Autosport his views about the tactics that have been employed this year:

I don't like those tactics. They're stupid. When you look at the results, it's stupid and driving like Sunday driving. These rules absolutely have to be changed for next year. The drivers are not fighting now, they're just playing. It's a question of who is the cleverest, not who is the fastest driver in the stages."

Meanwhile, there are crunch FIA talks taking place this week in Paris to decide the future of the WRC. Team representatives will be present, as will marketing experts and organisers, to discuss the global promotion of the sport with the FIA. Also being discussed are the technical regulations, the WRC calendar and the requirements for manufacturer teams to contest the WRC. The talks are taking place between Tuesday and Thursday of this week and are being viewed as critical because if decisions aren't reached then some teams will consider leaving the WRC. The WRCC are expected to meet in November then there is a WMSC meeting in December where decisions need to be ratified.
