Markko Martin gives the SWRT S14 WRC it’s maiden win on the RAF Marham Richard Burns Memorial Rally 2008 plus photos from the event

Markko Martin gave the Subaru S14 WRC it's first win at the weekend on the Richard Burns Memorial Rally at RAF Marham in Norfolk.

Markko and Robert Reid were competing in honour of Richard and thought the event was a fitting tribute and they hope it runs again next year. They would like to see some more works teams and people that were associated with Richard out next time but they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves over the weekend.

Markko tells wrc.com that his only concerns with using the Subaru S14 were the control tyres:

This was an amateur event and we were a professional world rally team. Without taking anything away from any of the other drivers, we should have won this event. The only thing which I did wonder about was the tyres. We were running on the Pirelli control tyre, we used the hard and the soft compound, but that’s a control tyre - it’s not a race tyre. I thought this might have been a bit of a handicap, but it was fine."

Robert Reid describes to wrc.com his experiences on the Richard Burns Memorial:

One of the things doing this event reminded me about was how privileged we are. When you see the interest this car caused at Marham, it reminds you how little access the public gets to these things. It was fantastic to see so much interest - and to be able to give the Impreza WRC2008 its first win - and what a win!”
