Stormont will not now launch the 2009 World Rally Championship

Stormont will not be the venue for the launch of the 2009 WRC according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The gala event which was scheduled for 24th January at Belfast’s Parliament Buildings, the Saturday before Rally Ireland, will not now take place. A ‘Race of Champions’ style event had been planned with all the works teams due to take part and celebrity co-drivers being lined up to sit with the likes of Loeb et al.

Stormont launch 2009 placed into uncertainty due to the controversy surrounding the date of appointment for the WRC global promoter

According to the Belfast Telegraph the World Rally Championship launch scheduled to take place on 24th January 2009 may not take place.

The planned gala event, featuring a Race of Champions style shoot-out around the grounds of the Stormont estate, has been placed in doubt due to a dispute between the FIA and the competing manufacturer teams over the appointment of a WRC global promoter.

Malcolm Wilson is optimistic for the WRC’s future as confident the right global promoter will be chosen

Malcolm Wilson was talking to crash radio and stated is optimistic about the WRC’s future. He feels S2000 with an added kit of performance parts is the way to go and that the rcent WRCC meetings were very positive. He added that he thinks the technical detail concerning the added kit will be sorted and will suit the manufacturers and encourage more to join.
