FIA World Motor Sport Council WRC decisions following extraordinary meeting Paris 7th October 2008

World Motor Sport Council - Decisions
07/10/2008
PRESS RELEASE
An extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council was held in Paris on 7 October 2008. The following decisions were taken:
WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
The FIA will invite tenders for the Commercial Rights to the FIA World Rally Championship from 2010. The tender will be published on 16 October 2008 and close on 15 November 2008. The winning tender will be announced at the start of Rally Ireland, the first round of the 2009 season.
ENDS
It has to be said that little seems to have been achieved here and it would appear that the teams are feeling a little nervous over the lack of an appointment of a commercial rights holder. Ford have been sabre rattling over the last few weeks and Subaru haven't exactly been happy with the length of time this has taken. As for Citroen they have been reasonably quiet with regards the appointment and speculation still links them with a move to the DTM in 2010.
Meanwhile, speculation suggests that WRC Commission president Morrie Chamdler will be replaced by WTCC boss Jonathan Ashman, though Ashman denies any talk of a move.
